Description
Three men plan a journey to do away with their
tiredness. They opine that they are in dire need of
a holiday as they suffer from overwork. After
making all the necessary preparations they set
out on Saturday.
George must go to work that morning. He goes
to sleep at a bank from ten to four each day, except
Saturdays, when they wake him up and put him
outside at two. So, the narrator and Harris make
their way to Kingston by train.
As they are unable to find the correct train, they
bribe a train driver to take his train to Kingston
where they collect their hired boat and start their
journey. The story is full of humour and brings
cheer on the face of the reader.
As the novel unfolds, it relates the incidents
that occur on their way. One of the most
outstanding features of the novel is how undated
it appears to modern readers, the jokes in it seem
fresh and witty even today.
