Description

The entire story revolves around
Emma Woodhouse, a beautiful, high-
spirited, intelligent and slightly spoiled
young woman of twenty. Her mother
dies when she was very young. She has
been the mistress of the house ever since.
She is portrayed as very compassionate
towards the poor, but at the same time
she has a strong sense of class. While she
is in many ways mature for her age, she
makes some serious mistakes, mainly
due to her conviction that she is always
right and her lack of real world
experiences. Although she vows she will
never marry yet she takes delight in
making matches for others. She seems
unable to fall in love until jealousy
makes her realize that she has loved
Mr Knightley all along.
