Description

The story is about a boy whose name is David
Copperfield. David’s father dies six months
before David is born. Seven years later,
David’s mother marries Mr. Edward Murdstone.
David does not like his stepfather as he thrashes
David for falling behind with his studies. He is sent
away to a boarding school, Salem House. In the
meantime, his mother dies. He walks all the way from
London to Dover to find his only relative, his aunt
Miss Betsey. She decides to bring David up despite
Mr. Murdstone’s bid to regain custody of David. The
entire story revolves round David as he grows to
adulthood, and is enlivened by many well-known
characters-Peggotty, little Em’ly, Steerforth,
Micawber, Uriah Heep and, last but not the least,
Agnes-who enter, leave and re-enter his life.
