Description
Jerusha Abbot aka Judy is a young girl who has
lived all her life in an orphanage, John Grier Home.
When her caretaker, Mr. Smith, sends her to college,
her life takes a U-turn.
She is overwhelmed with her new found freedom
and writes to her caretaker and chooses the name
Daddy-long-legs for Mr. Smith (who hates girls, is
rich and has long legs).
Daddy-Long-Legs is the journal of Judy about her
journey from hating her orphanage to loving it as
much. It is the journey of a girl who has never
experienced happiness, success, love and
friendship. The colours of her life are filled with
vibrance and exuberance, with aims and
aspirations. Every day of her life, be it with friends
or with books, makes one feel that how we lack the
“living every moment” syndrome.
Made into several movies and a musical comedy,
Jean Webster’s Daddy-Long-Legs remains one of the
best-loved novels of all time.
