Description

Sir Leicester Dedlock, a British aristocrat, lives in
Chesney Wold in rural Lincolnshire with his wife Lady
Dedlock. The couple is rich and lives a wonderful life.
Lady Dedlock has hidden a deep secret from her
husband. She gave birth to a child before she was
married to the aristocrat. Captain Hawdon is the
father of the child. Lady Dedlock is unaware of the
fact that her child is still alive and is now raised by her
godmother. After her death John Jarndyce takes care
of the child, Esther.
John Jarndyce raises up Esther with great love and
care. Throughout the story both Lady Dedlock and
Esther can’t address each other as mother and
daughter in the public because of the established
reputation of Sir Leicester Dedlock. In the end, Lady
Dedlock dies out of cold and Esther is grief-stricken.
Esther’s father captain Hawdon is also dead.
