Description
It is a science fiction novel wherein a German Professor Liedenbrock, who believes that there are volcanic tubes going towards the centre of the earth, his nephew Axel and their Danish guide (Hans) descend into an extinct Icelandic Volcano, encountering many adventures, prehistoric animals and natural hazards. In that unknown and dangerous world, they do not lose heart at any circumstances, before eventually coming to the surface again in
southern Italy. Professor Liedenbrock is hailed as one of the greatest scientists of history. Axel marries his sweetheart Grauben, and Hans eventually returns to his peaceful life in Iceland. The Professor has some regret that their
journey was cut short. From a scientific point of view, this story has not aged quite as well as other Verne’s stories since most of his ideas about what the interior of the earth contains have since been disproved.
